Calls for tests with end-of-life pill renewed
Two Dutch organization made a renewed call for experiments with an end-of-life pill for people who do not qualify for euthanasia on Nieuwsuur. They plan to soon submit proposals for such experiments, NU.nl reports.
According to Cooperatie Laastste Wil (Cooperation Last Will in English) and the Netherlands association for voluntary end of life NVVE, everyone should be able to determine how they end their life. They feel that people who do not want to live anymore, but are not covered by the euthanasia law, should have access to an end-of-life pill, also known as a suicide pill or last will pill.
The NVVE wants to launch a test with a suicide pill for people age 75 years and older next year. The Cooperatie Laatste Wil wants the experiment to include all legal adults, people 18 years and older.
D66 parliamentarian Pia Dijkstra told Nieuwsuur that her party plans to propose an end-of-life pill experiment before the end of the year. The VVD stated that they will consider such a proposal.
