Dutch composer Bernard van Beurden dies at age 82
Dutch composer Bernard van Beurden died surrounded by his family during the early hours of Sunday morning, his daughter Katrien van Beurden announced on Monday. The well-known composer was 82 years old, BuzzE reports.
Van Beurden was born in Amsterdam in 1933. He started playing the violin at the age of 8 and wrote his fist composition for violin and cello at age 11. He studied violin and viola at the Amsterdam Conservatory and studied composition with Rudolf Escher and Ton de Leeuw.
Bernard van Beurden wrote music for 21 plays and 7 musical theater pieces. One of his musical theater pieces, Repelsteeltje van de Lavenlots, was translated to German and Croation. He also wrote three operas, one of which was translated to Swedish.
In 2003 Van Beurden was awarded the Royal Order of Oranje Nassau for his merit as a vesatile musician.
