Exploding hand grenade wakes Amsterdam neighborhood
Residents of the Rivierenbuurt in Amsterdam were shocked awake on Monday morning when a hand grenade exploded on Oude IJselstraat around 4:15 a.m. Several parked cars were damaged, but no one was injured, ANP reports.
Police and firefighters responded to the scene. The explosion caused a lot of smoke, but luckily no fire.
The police are investigating the explosion. It is unclear whether a crime was committed or whether the explosion was an accident. One witness reported seeing a boy wearing a black hoodie cycling away from the scene. So far the police were unable to track him down.
