PM Rutte officially kicks off Liberation Day in Groningen

Prime Minister Mark Rutte officially kicked off the Liberation Day celebrations by lighting the liberation fire in Groningen just after 1:00 p.m., NU.nl reports Every year the liberation fire is lit in another province. The party in Groningen is one of 14 events in the Netherlands today. This is the 70th Liberation Day in the Netherlands, and Weerplaza expect that it will break records with the amount of sunshine - more than 14 hours of sunshine is expected for today. The Liberation Day festivities end with the annual 5 May concert on the Amstel river in Amsterdam. The Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Ali B, Pau de Munnik, Hadewych Minis and the cast of the musical De Tweeling, among others, will perform.
