Dutch journalist held in Turkey fears return to Amsterdam

Dutch-Turkish journalist Ebru Umar will not be returning to her Amsterdam home once she is allowed to leave Turkey. A break in at her home shortly after her arrest in Turkey left her too afraid to do so, she said to RTL Nieuws. Umar was arrested in Turkey last week Saturday for insulting president Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Twitter. She was released a day later, but can not leave the country. Her Amsterdam home was broken into during this period. "There were slogans left on my wall intended to intimidate me. A little thief would just take some stuff, but this is something else. That's pretty scary", she said to the broadcaster. Where she'll live or what security measures will be taken after her return to the Netherlands, is still unclear. "There are no details, the situation changes day by day. When Im back we'll sit down with everyone involved and see what's best for me", Umar said, adding that a call from Prime Minister Mark Rutte reassured her that she will be safe in the Netherlands.
