Crowded IJmuiden cafe burns down leaving one badly hurt

One person was seriously injured in IJmuiden on Monday morning when a fire in a gym spread over to an adjacent cafe. The rest of the about 30 people in the cafe were able to get out before being injured, NOS reports. The fire started in the gym on Zeeweg around 2:00 a.m. Emergency services and fired departments from the entire region responded to help extinguish the fire. The fire was under control around 4:45 a.m. The cause of the fire is unknown. The local safety office believes that there may have been an explosion. Both cafe La Belle and and gym Villa Sportiva were severely damaged and can be considered lost.
