Domestic violence suspect hurt in police shooting
A man suspected of committing domestic violence was injured while being arrested in Tiel during the early hours of Sunday morning. He was hit in the buttock by a police bullet.
The police responded to a home on Wilhelmina Druckerstraat around 3:30 a.m. after receiving a report of domestic violence. At the scene they found an injured woman. The suspect was not in the house.
The officers searched the area when a man approached them with a threatening attitude, according to the police. He attacked one of the officers, who fired a shot at the man. The suspect was hit in the buttock. He is being treated in hospital.
The Rijksrecherche, the department that handles internal investigations at the police, is investigating the shooting. This is standard procedure whenever someone is injured after a police officer fired his gun.
