Home explosion, fire leaves one hurt; Groningen area evacuated
A short but fierce fire in a Groningen home left one person injured on Thursday. Firefighters believe the fire was caused by an explosion and closed down the area around Friesestraatweg for several hours in case there was another one.
Several homes were evacuated and traffic was redirected. The area was opened again around 9:00 p.m. after a bomb expert determined that there is no risk of further explosions, according to RTV Noord.
The fire was quickly under control and extinguished, but the home's bedroom was destroyed.
The injured person was taken to a hospital and was discharged after treatment in the emergency room.
