Over 10,000 pics of overcrowded trains sent to Consumers assoc.
Some 10 thousand people sent photos of overcrowded trains to consumers association ConsumentenClaim over the past weeks. About a month ago the association called on travelers to send evidence of overcrowding for a possible lawsuit against NS. According to the association, they now have enough evidence, the Telegraaf reports.
ConsumentenClaim believes that NS should compensate travelers suffering under overcrowded trains. According to the association, NS did not take sufficient measures to prevent this problem, even though the company knew in 2014 that a train shortage will form a problem in 2015 and 2016.
So far NS refused to compensate its passengers. According to the company, they offer transport space and do not guarantee that seating will be available for every customer.
It is unclear when or whether ConsumentenClaim will go so far as to file a lawsuit against NS. They are currently awaiting the results of an investigation into the overcrowded trains by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment.
"We expect to have more clarity about that over a week or two", Stef Smit of ConsumentenClaim said to the Telegraaf. NS will enter a discussion with the association following the results of the investigation. If that discussion does not deliver results, legal steps will follow, according to Smit.
