Netherlands flags ordered to half-staff as Belgium mourns
Prime Minister Mark Rutte ordered all flags on government buildings to hang at half-mast on Thursday to show support for Belgium following the terrorist attacks in Brussels on Tuesday. This includes municipal and provincial buildings, as well as Dutch diplomatic representations abroad, NU.nl reports.
Dutch flags in The Hague and on Schiphol were lowered to half-mast on Tuesday and Wednesday already. A number of Dutch landmarks, including the palace on Dam square in Amsterdam and the Dom tower in Utrecht, were lit up in the colors of the Belgian flag on Tuesday evening.
Brussels was hit by three suicide bombing attacks on Tuesday, two at the airport and on at the Maalbeek metro station. At least 34 people were killed and more than 200 were injured.
