Justice Sec.: end cash bonus to rejected Ukrainians sent packing
Rejected Ukrainian asylum seekers will no longer receive any money or other support for returning to their own country, State Secretary Klaas Dijkhoff of Security and Justice and Minister Lilianne Ploumen of Development Cooperation decided. According to them, the money was used improperly, ANP reoprts.
Failed asylum seekers can turn to the International Organization for Migration for money or other support to make returning to their own country easier. This no longer applies to Ukrainians.
An increasing number of Ukrainian asylum seekers are entering the Netherlands since last summer. Research showed that most of them come from the Ivano-Frankivsk region in the west of the country, and not from the east where there is fighting. The Ivano-Frankivsk region is considered safe, so the Netherlands rejects most applicants from there.
While the Ukrainians are no longer entitled to money or support from the IOM, they can still get a plane ticket back to their own country and 200 euros to pay for initial expenses after their return.
