Father, son killed in house fire

A father and son were killed in a house fire in Winterswijk during the early hours of Sunday morning. The third resident of the house, the wife and mother of the family, escaped unharmed, according to the police. Emergency services responded to the home on Ligusterlaan in Winterswijk around 4:40 a.m. Firefighters rescued the two victims - a 66 year old man and his 38 year old son - from the home and started resuscitating. But it was to no avail. Both died at the scene. The third resident, a 66 year old woman, escaped unharmed. Three surrounding homes were evacuated during the fire. These residents were given shelter in a nearby nursing home's canteen. They were allowed back to their homes during the course of the morning. The cause of the fire is still unknown. The police are investigating.
