Ukraine referendum a mystery to over a fourth of Dutch people
A massive 27.4 percent of Dutch voters have no idea that there will be a referendum on the association agreement between the European Union and the Ukraine in April, according to a study done by research firm Ipsos, Kieskompas and newspaper Trouw.
The study found that nearly 40 percent of women are not aware of the referendum. And nearly half of young people between the ages of 18 and 34 years don't know of anything happening on April 6th. The same is true of one in four of people between the ages of 35 and 50.
Most of the voters over the age of 50 know that the referendum is happening and what it is about.
The largest group of respondents 22.9 percent - think the referendum is primarily about trade relations between the Netherlands and the Ukraine. Almost 10 percent of respondents with a lower education think it mainly concerns finding and prosecuting those responsible for shooting down MH17.
The study was done among 1,082 respondents representative of the Dutch population, according to the newspaper.
