Revenge porn victim settles lawsuit against Facebook
Facebook and revenge porn victim Chantal from Werkendam reached a settlement regarding which investigators Facebook will allow access to their systems. This means that the court will not have to rule on the matter on Friday, both Facebook and crime reporter Peter R. de Vries announced on Thursday.
This case surrounds a sex tape featuring Chantal posted on the social media site last year. Chantal wants to know who posted the video. Facebook claims they do not have that information. A court ruled that Facebook should give a third party access to their systems to determine whether or not the information has really been deleted.
This lawsuit revolves around which investigator will have access to the Facebook systems. Facebook wants an Irish investigator, as their offices are located in Ireland. Chantal insisted on a Dutch investigator. They settled on both investigators going to Ireland to look for the information, Chantal's lawyer Thomas van Vugt said to Omroep Brabant.
"Facebook and Chantal have now reached an agreement on the appointment of experts to confirm that the requested data is indeed deleted. The investigation will be done jointly by two experts: Dave O'Reilly and Mark Hoekstra", a spokesperson for Facebook said, Omroep Brabant reports. "They will start the investigation as soon as possible. We want to emphasize that we sympathize with the victim and are working hard to ensure that this type of unwanted content is not on Facebook."
