Netherlands to help monitor Syria truce
The Netherlands will help monitor the situation in Syria and violations to the ceasefire in the country in a communication center based in Geneva, Minister Bert Koenders of Foreign Affairs said to BNR after a meeting with the International Syria Support Group on the ceasefire in Syria.
The communication center will collect and assess all reports of violations to the Syria ceasefire. "Advisers inventory reports of a violation of the ceasefire. All reports are checked, from both media and various channels in Syria", Koenders said to the broadcaster.
The Minister believes that monitoring the cease fire is extremely important. He is "surprised that the cease fire is being reasonably maintained" so far. "The past few days we saw a huge reduction in the number of attacks. It's much quieter. But at the beginning of such a situation you get 'spoilers'. These are people who are going to test the ceasefire", he said, adding that the situation is still very fragile.
