Dutch-made chemical appears in ISIS bombs
An ISIS explosive containing hydrogen peroxide produced by chemical company Solvay in Roermond, was discovered in Iraq according to a report by Conflict Armament Research, the Telegraaf reports.
Hydrogen peroxide is used as a disinfectant in hospitals and the food industry, but is also often part of homemade explosives.
Solvay spokeseprson Caroline Jacobs told the newspaper that they were "stunned" when they heard their company was named in the report. She stressed that their company has absolutely nothing to do with the terrorist organization. "We carefully monitor the sale and we comply to national and international regulations."
According to Jacobs, "a reliable American customer" that specializes in cleaning techniques ordered nearly 200 barrels of hydrogen peroxide from Solvay in January 2014. The order was delivered in Turkey a month later. She has no idea how it ended up with ISIS. "Once the customer receives the order, our responsibility ends."
Conflict Armament Research is a research organization that monitors the international use of military weapons and ammunition. The report states that the barrels Solvay hydrogen peroxide were sold from Turkey to three different Iraqi companies between March and September 2014. ISIS used it at the Second Battle of Tikrit which happened between March 2nd and April 17th 2015.
