Red Cross needs another 1,000 volunteers to step up
The Red Cross is urgently looking for at least 1 thousand extra first aid volunteers to help out with the asylum seekers as well as upcoming events, RTL Nieuws reports.
The main tasks these volunteers will perform involves giving first aid, such as for people with minor bleeding injuries, bruises, abrasions or lacerations.
"Both at events and the reception of asylum seekers it is essential that enough people are ready to provide first aid when needed", Peter Paul Tenthof van Noorden, head of first aid at the Red Cross, said to the broadcaster.
In September the Red Cross called the asylum crisis "the largest aid operation in years". The organization also regularly recruits more volunteers before the start of summer events in the Netherlands. On Monday the organization launched a major recruitment drive so that volunteers can be trained and ready in time.
