More speed limits raised to 130 km/h; includes Amsterdam-Utrecht A2

From Friday, February 5th, 19 routes will have a speed limit of 130 kilometers per hour, including parts of the A1, A27, A28 and A58. In May motorists will be allowed to drive 130 kilometers per hour during the evening on the entire A2 route between Amsterdam and Utrecht. The speed limit for the evening hours on the A2 between Holendrecht and Vinkeveen will be raised to 130 km/h, transport Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen announced on Thursday, NU reports. This decision will be inspected on February 18th and, if all goes well, will be implemented in mid-May. The fact that the piece of the A2 between Holendrecht and Vinkeveen still has a speed limit of 100 km/h, even in the evening, causes a lot of confusion and annually accounts for tens of millions of euros in speeding tickets. Once this speed limit is raised, the evening speed limit (between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.) for the entire A2 between Amsterdam and Utrecht will be 130 km/h.
