Third woman claims sexual assault by Almere asylum seekers
A further investigation into reports that two asylum seekers sexually assaulted several young women in Almere will be done after a third woman reported being assaulted to the police, the Public Prosecutor announced on Thursday.
The two asylum seekers suspected in the sexual assaults, aged 18 and 20 years old and both residents of the asylum center in the city, were set to appear in court on February 9th. That date has now been postponed as the third woman's case must first be investigated, news wire ANP reports. A new court date will be determined at a later stage.
The incident happened on September 27th in the center of Almere. The assault involved four victims. Two of the victims initially decided not to press charges, one evidently changed her mind.
Parents of the victims previously expressed their fear that the case will be hushed up due to "political correctness" to NRC. Political parties PVV and VNL also spoke of a cover-up in the Tweede Kamer, lower house of parliament.
