Success: Over 500 asylum seekers start school courses
The first day of school on Monday for more than 500 child asylum seekers living in the Heumensoord emergency shelter camp was a success, a spokesperson for the Nijmegen municipality said to the Telegraaf.
According to the spokesperson, it was an "exciting day" for kids and teachers alike. The teachers were excited to see how the first day would go. Most of the children seem to look forward with pleasure to the second day of school in the Netherlands, the spokesperson said.
The kids are receiving lessons in Dutch in a hastily remodeled former school on the other side of Nijmegen. Buses take them to and from school.
