Rainy end of year expected; New year to start sunny & foggy

The Netherlands will be spending the last day of 2015 with umbrellas, the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, KNMI, expects. Today will be cloudy with a chance of rain, especially in the north and west of the country. Later in the afternoon the clouds will clear up and there will even be periods of sunshine. Afternoon temperatures will reach around 9 degrees, with a moderate to strong southwestern wind. Tonight will be mostly clear, but the west can expect clouds late in the evening with some rain around midnight. Temperatures will drop to between 2 and 4 degrees. The New Year will begin quite sunny in many places, with some fog in the morning. Temperatures will rise to about 7 degrees.
