“Hero of the Year” is Tilburg man who rescued baby from New Year’s fire
Tilburg man Andy Jansen was named "Hero of the Year" with a full page article in the Telegraaf for rescuing a 6 month old baby from a burning house last New Year.
The house on Cornelis Drebbelstraat in Tilburg caught fire around midnight on New Year's eve last year. When Andy and his uncle Wim Goorden heard that a baby was still in the house, they rushed in without hesitation.
The pair reached the baby via a fence, the pantry roof and a first floor window. On the way out Andy also rescued the family's pitbull Mikey.
Earlier this year Andy and his uncle were also honored with a silver medal from the Carnegie Hero Fund for their courageous actions.
