Amsterdam spending most on New Year’s; RTL to broadcast from Rotterdam

Amsterdam is the municipality spending most on the New Year's celebration this year. The municipality is contributing 50 thousand euros to the party, according to a survey done by Dutch newspaper AD. The total cost of the party in the Scheepvaartmuseum tonight will amount to 100 thousand euros. The other half of the money is paid by ING, Akzo Nobel and Bugaboo, Het Parool reports. Last year Amsterdam only contributed 10 thousand euros. The reason this year's party is turning out to be much more expensive, is because the municipality invited some 500 volunteers. Utrecht is in second place for spending most on the city's New Year's party with 35 thousand euros. Nijmegen came in third place with 30 thousand euros. RTL will be broadcasting live from Rotterdam tonight. In addition to scenes from the Rotterdam party, the broadcaster will also show New Year's events from around the world including Sydney in Australia, Tokyo in Japan, Dubai, Moscow and Cape Town in South Africa.
