Amsterdam man held in fatal stabbing of ex-girlfriend's new lover

A 35 year old man was killed in a stabbing on Schelpenhoekstraat in Diemen in the early hours of Sunday morning. A 45 year old man was arrested in Amsterdam Zuidoost a short time later. According to local residents, the perpetrator was the ex-boyfriend of one of the women living on the street. The victim was her new boyfriend. The police are still investigating, but currently assume that the stabbing was the result of a quarrel in the relationship sphere that turned violent. The stabbing happened around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday. One witness told AT5 that the perpetrator drove up to the house in a silver car and started yelling at the people inside through the back door. "He pounded on the back door and shouted: 'Open the door! Open up!' Eventually a man came out with a knife", the witness said. The two men got into a fight and the man who came out was stabbed. "The other man got into the car and drove away." according to the witness. Local residents and the emergency services tried to resuscitate the man, but it was to no avail.
