Eight anti-asylum rioters kept in police custody; six released
Six of the 14 people arrested in connection with the anti-asylum center riots in Geldermalsen on Wednesday, were released on Friday, the Public Prosecutor announced. The prosecutor wants to keep the other eight in custody for another three days.
According to the Prosecutor, all eight of the still-in-custody suspects are accused of committing public violence. They will be arraigned by Wednesday at the latest.
These suspects include two minors from Haaften and Tricht, an 18 year old man from Culemborg, an 25 year old man from Heukelum, a 22 year old man from Enspijk, and three men from Geldermalsen aged 21, 22 and 52 years old.
The other six suspects are suspected of more minor offenses. Two persons from Geldermalsen, aged 20 and 21 years old, were arrested for insulting a police officer. A 27 year old man from Geldermalsen was arrested for one case of vandalism. A 24 year old man from Azltbommel was arrested for possession of a weapon. A 25 year old man from Meteren was arrested for threatening an official and resisting arrest and a 40 year old from Geldermalsen was arrested for wearing a balaclava.
The Prosecutor will soon make a decision on how to handle the cases against these suspects.
