Armed casino caper leads to Rotterdam arrests
Three armed and masked men robbed a casino in the Zeeland town Burgh-Haamstede on Thursday night. They threatened two customers and staff members and took off with the customers' possessions and an amount of the casino's money. The suspects were arrested in Rotterdam a few hours later.
The police received a report of the robbery around 10:50 p.m. on Thursday. When officers arrived at the scene, the suspects were already gone. The police immediately launched a search and the Forensic Technical Investigation department performed a trace evidence investigation.
Around midnight a truck driver signaled a suspicious car driving in the direction of Rotterdam. There were three men in the car. After a short chase, and with the help of the truck driver, the police managed to stop the car on Markweg in Europoort Rotterdam.
The officers managed to talk the three suspects out of the car and arrested them. One officer fired a warning shot during the arrest. The police found items in and around the car indicating that the men were involved in the casino robbery. The suspects are two men from Middelburg, aged 29 and 31 years old, and a 27 year old man from Vlissingen.
