Over 600 Dutch schools come out against homophobia for Purple Friday

About 200 thousand students and teachers of more than 600 Dutch schools wore purple clothes on Friday as a symbol against discrimination and hatred for homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders, NU reports. This is the sixth edition of Purple Friday. The first Purple Friday event in the Netherlands was in 2010, with 150 schools participating. The Americans came up with Purple Friday after a large number of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender young people committed suicide in a short period of time.
