Explosion, fire in Rotterdam home forces evacuation

An explosion and subsequent fire severely damaged a home in Rotterdam early on Thursday morning. No injuries were reported so far. 

According to Rijnmondveilig, a warning and information system in Rotterdam, the explosion happened in a first story home in a building on Rusthoflaan around 5:00 a.m. Firefighters responded to the scene and managed to get the fire under control. They are still working on extinguishing it.

The surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution. It is unclear when the residents will be allowed to return. The cause of the explosion is still unclear.
