FC Twente boss resigns amid shady transfer agreements
Aldo van der Laan announced his resignation as president of FC Twente following leaked documents that revealed a deal with outside investors on the transfer of players. According to Van der Laan, doubts caused by this deal is damaging the football club, news wire AP reports.
FIFA recently banned this practiced, called third-party ownership, because it poses a threat to the integrity of the game - investors can force players to transfer to make a profit.
Earlier this week website Football Leaks published a contract between FC Twente and Malta-based investment firm Doyen Sports Investments. The deal was signed before FIFA banned the practice. In the deal, Doyen agrees to pay 5 million euros to the club for between 10 and 50 percent of the transfer fee rights of 7 players.
