New 20 euro notes enter circulation on Wednesday
The new 20 euro note will enter circulation in the Netherlands tomorrow, De Nederlandsche Bank announced on Tuesday. The new note incorporates new developments in banknote technology that makes it even harder to forge.
There are three main new features to check whether your new 20 euro note is the genuine article. Tactile ink that you can feel in lines on the left and right edges of the note. A hologram portrait of Greek mythology figure Europa appearing when the note is held up to the light. And an emerald green number 20 that will shine if moved up and down.
The bank updated its "new or fake" website on which people can find easy instructions on how to check if their banknotes are real.
The public will be able get their hands on the new 20 euro notes from Wednesday by withdrawing cash from ATM's or as change in shop. The new note will circulate alongside the old one, which will be phased out of circulation as they get worn out.
