Hilversum bans fireworks from center, incl. New Year’s Eve

The administrative court in Hilversum ruled that the mayor and aldermen can ban fireworks from the city center this year. Mayor Pieter Broertjes is very happy with the ruling. "A beautiful ruling which I, as mayor, am of course very happy with", Broertjes said to RTV Noord-Holland after the ruling on Thursday. "The coming new year we will have an area in Hilversum with no fireworks disturbances and where people can celebrate quietly without firecrackers and rockets going off in their ears." The mayor and aldermen tried to ban fireworks from the city last year, but the court ruled that they did not have the authority to make the decision.
