Dutch PM Mark Rutte to attend Paris climate change talks
Prime Minister Mark Rutte will be attending the United Nations climate summit at the end of this month, a spokesperson for the Government Information Service confirmed to BNR.
Up until now it was believed that only State Secretary Sharon Dijksma of Infrastructure and Environment would attend the summit, leading environmental organizations to criticize the Prime Minister's absence.
The summit runs from November 30th to December 11th. The aim for the climate summit is to reach an agreement to succeed the Kyoto agreement, which expires in 2020. The Netherlands will be pushing for a binding climate change agreement which limits global warming to 2 degrees Celsius.
November is turning out to be a busy month for the Prime Minister. He is currently in Japan on a trade visit and later this week he will be attending the refugee summit between the European Union and African countries in Malta.
