Fourth annual Amsterdam Art Weekend ready for November
The schedule for the upcoming Amsterdam Art Weekend was released, with this year's event focused on the diversity and dynamism of the contemporary art scene. Art lovers and professionals will be able to explore the Amsterdam art scene from Thursday, November 26 until Sunday, November 29.
The event stages film screenings and performances, with 50 galleries, projects, museums and institutions displaying their offerings. About 90 different events are planned in total, showcasing work from artists like Jake and Dinos Chapman, Folkert de Jong, and Otobong Nkanga.
The Stedelijk Museum figures prominently in this year's festival, and the museums’ director, Beatrix Ruf is excited for long weekend. "I am proud that the Stedelijk is playing a central role in this event. We are teaming up to present the work of influential artists, to contribute to contemporary art and to give young talent a platform," she said in a statement.
“I look forward once again to welcoming a very special group of international art lovers and professionals to Amsterdam. This event has become a delightful annual tradition celebrating contemporary art, and the opening of the exhibition Isa Genzken: Mach Dich hübsch! is an absolute highlight."
For the first time the art weekend is also using auction houses for exhibitions, with directors and curators acting as tour guides for groups of visitors. The city's Oude Kerk, the Rijksakademie, De Balie and the International Documentary Film-festival Amsterdam (IDFA) will also participate.
A detailed list of the upcoming events can be found on the Amsterdam Art Weekend website.
