Speed limit to rise up to 130 km/h from Amsterdam to Utrecht
Coalition parties VVD and PvdA have agreed to set the speed limit on the entire A2 between Amsterdam and Utrecht to 130 kilometers per hour. The coalition plans to implement this in the Infrastructure and Environment budget discussion.
With this the parties hope to put an end to the confusion about speed limits and eliminate what the VVD believes is "without a doubt the biggest annoyance of every motorist", the AD reports.
Currently there are different speed limits depending on where you are on the highway. The first piece from Amsterdam has a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour. Then you are allowed to drive 130 kilometers per hour between Vinkeveen and Maarsen. And then it's back down to 100 until you reach Utrecht.
The Central Judicial Collection Agency recently revealed that a third of all traffic fines in the Netherlands last year came from that bit of the A2, amounting to 48 million euros.
