Former Green party MP Tofik Dibi comes out as gay

Former GroenLinks Parliamentarian Tofik Dibi has come out a gay, three years after the end of his political career. The 34 year old man told the Volkskrant that he has struggled with his sexuality for many years and did not know how to be both a Muslim and gay. In the interview, Dibi said he hoped for a long time that his homosexuality would go away. He hoped that by putting all of his attentions into politics, his feelings for men would disappear. And soothed his conscience by defending the rights of gay people. In his book Djinn, Dibi explains how he saw his sexual orientation as a jinn - a supernatural being in Islamic belief who can take possession of people, but they can be saved from it too. The book is published today.
