“Back to the Future” day remembered at Leiden Int. Film Festival
On this day, back from 1989, Marty McFLy, Dr Emmet Brown and the infamous DeLorean, will again touch down in the future, this time at the Leiden International Film Festival. Tickets to tonight’s screening of the hit movies, “Back to the Future 1&2”, sold out in no time. The films will again make a big screen appearance at the Trianon movie theatre.
Director of the film festival, Alexander Mouret told Leidschdagblad, “It seemed nice to show the film on this day. By now it is happening in many more places.” Many fans gathered in Los Angeles for the 5-day event “we’re going back”. Dutch filmmaker Ismael Lotz was one of those in attendance in LA and says the films are his reason for eventually becoming a filmmaker.
Cinema Brewers will be launching their brand of beer, “Bock to the future”, at the event this evening as part of the celebrations. The new brew will be available throughout the Netherlands after this launch. Facebook has recorded 435,000 people that have indicated they would be present at the Marty McFly Welcome Party. Morning shows, newspapers and radio are all getting behind the celebrations.
Predictions of future technology portrayed in the movie have not all been brought to life as yet. Flat tv’s, hover boards, drones, 3D movies, and fingerprint scanners are all technologies that have become a reality in 2015. Dog walking robots, to the second weather prediction and mailbox-fax integration has yet to become part of our reality.
