Suspect arrested in Leiden Univ. mass shooting threat
Police arrested a 21-year-old man early Wednesday morning for publishing a mass shooting threat against Leiden University on internet bulletin board 4Chan. The suspect, a student at the university from Valkenburg, Zuid-Holland, was apprehended at about 12:30 a.m.
The threat was posted on Monday, with its author claiming he would shoot as many people as possible at the university on Tuesday morning. “Tomorrow at 10:05 i will open fire at the university of Leiden. Not gonna tell you which faculty, thats up to you to guess. Shit’s gonna go down, then i’m gonna go down. Going for the highscore,” a portion of the message stated.
“The police is currently investigating if the suspect is also involved in a second threat made yesterday on the internet,” police said in a statement.
Police officers were stationed at the university throughout the morning, and officers said they continued surveillance after recalling many of the guards. The university also beefed up its own security.
Authorities said Tuesday they had no proof the threat was credible.
