Commuters warned of dense fog Monday morning
People in the Netherlands who use the roadways to get to work can expect a more challenging commute than normal, as dense fog is expected to blanket a good portion of the country. The provinces of Noord- and Zuid-Holland, Friesland and Gelderland were all covered by a code yellow weather warning issued by the Dutch meteorological agency KNMI.
Visibility could be limited to far less than 200 meters, the agency warned. However, the fog should lift by mid-morning.
Traffic jams were tying up nearly 470 kilometers of Dutch roadways by 8 a.m. on Monday, according to drivers' association ANWB. The A2, A27, A50 and A59 were among the hardest hit stretches of highway, causing problems all around the Randstad and the east of the country.
The ANWB expects a normal rush hour period in the evening.
