Syrian girl, 9, found drowned in swimming pool

A nine year old Syrian girl drowned in the t' Gastland pool in Rhenen on Monday. She had been living as a refugee in the Netherlands for a few months. According to broadcaster NOS, the girl had been at the pool for swimming lessons. After the lesson all the children had to go take a shower. The girl walked to a separate dressing room, so she could dress by herself. The police believe that she fell in the water as she walked past the pool. The pool's lifeguard noticed the girl lying on the bottom of the pool and managed to resuscitate her. She was rushed to the hospital by helicopter, where she passed away. Rhenen Mayor Hans van der Pas told the broadcaster that he is shocked by what happened, calling it a terrible incident.
