Dutch bombing missions over Syria could start quickly

The government may soon decide to extend Dutch bombarding missions against terrorist organization Islamic State to Syria, according to PvdA leader Diederik Samsom. The PvdA leader told the Telegraaf that this is because it does not have to take long before there is a prospect of a final solution for Syria, the final condition to be met before the PvdA will agree to extending the missions. "It could happen quickly", he said. According to Samsom, in the political strategy for Syria, it is especially important that large power blocs like Russia, Europe and China can make arrangements with each other. A source within the Cabinet confirmed to the newspaper that it could all go very quickly. "If the Netherlands gets the idea that it will end up alone, it has to jump on that train." Minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert of Defense and Minister Bert Koenders of Foreign Affairs will be presenting the Tweede Kamer, lower house of parliament, with a progress report on the anti-ISIS mission in early October. The cabinet will make a decision on Syria before that happens.
