Utrecht’s TivoliVredenburg wins 2015 Rietveld architecture prize

The music palace TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht has won the Rietveld architecture prize for 2015, beating the Anne Frank School and the Kop van Lombok. According to the jury, the TivoliVredenburg shows that courage and vision still exist. The board of the Rietveld Award Foundation made this announcement on behalf of the jury on Tuesday. The music building was an unanimous choice for the jury, which was led by Jacob van Rijs. "The building shows that the creative act produces an architecture that delivers an equally essential and surprising contribution to the life, the experience and the usability of the big city." The Rietveld Prize is awarded biennially to an architectural, urban or landscape project in the city of Utrecht. Up until the end of the month people can still cast their vote for the winner of the public prize. This winner will remain secret until the award ceremony, which will be held in the TivoliVredenburg on October 25th.
