Tall ships heading to Sail Amsterdam
Some of the tall ships that will be participating in Sail this week, set sail towards Amsterdam on Sunday. The ships departed from Bremerhaven in northern Germany, where a smaller version of sail was held, AT5 reports.
These ships will arrive in IJmuiden on Wednesday, from where they will join the parade towards Amsterdam.
Twenty Dutchmen are traveling along and helping out on the Statsraad Lehmkuhl, an 84.6 meter long ship from Norway. "Yes I'm nervous. Three days in total to IJmuiden. I've never gone along with such a ship", one of the Dutch on board said to AT5. "I think we will be traveling in a sort of convoy. It is very busy in the North Sea anyway."
The ships will depart from IJmuiden to Amsterdam on Wednesday, where Sail visitors can admire them. Some of the participating ships are already waiting in the IJmuiden port.
