Woman dies after Veenendaal apartment fire

A 60 year old woman was killed in a fire in an apartment building on Willem Alexanderpark in Veenendaal on Sunday morning, the police confirmed on Sunday. The fire broke out around 03:00 a.m. When the police arrived at the scene, several residents of the apartment building told them that there may still be someone in the burning flat. Firefighters forced the door open and brought he 60 year old woman out. She was rushed to the hospital with severe burns. The woman later passed away in hospital of her injuries. According to Dutch newspaper AD, the fire raged on the third floor of the building. The apartment directly above the burning flat had to be evacuated, but other residents were allowed to stay in their homes. The fire brigade managed to extinguish the fire quickly. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
