Dutch take bronze in women's youth basketball tourney
The Orange Angels - the Dutch women's under 20 basketball team - won a bronze medal in the European Championships in Lanzarote, beating Russia 63-51.
This is the first time in history that a Dutch women's basketball team brought a medal home from a major international tournament, NOS reports.
According to the broadcaster, this latest basketball success can be attributed to the establishment of the CTO Amsterdam training institute for women's basketball six years ago. With the support of NOC*NSF, the institute offers ambitious players a full-time program, combined with education, housing and medical support.
Dutch basketball seems to be on the rise all over. Last year the men's team qualified for the European Championships this summer for the first time in 25 years.
