Giant penis erected in protest of Infrastructure Min.

Angry residents along the route of the A4 highway at Steenbergen have erected a giant penis statue in protest against the highway. They hope that this gesture will finally draw Infrastructure Minister Melanie Schultz van Heagen's attention to their complaints that the highway was not built according to the rules. The statue, built by wood artist Peter de Koning, stands three meters tall and has been strategically placed along one of the roads, BN DeStem reports. So that the minister can not miss it when she visits Steenbergen on Thursday to officially open the highway between Dinteloord and Bergen op Zoom. In actual fact, the highway has been open since last fall, but the official speeches will happen on Thursday morning. "And believe me: minister Schultz will not soon forget her visit to Steenbergen. It is becoming an exciting reception", Vladimir Hornicek, resident of Stoofdijk, told the newspaper. He has been protesting this highway from the start. The statue will be accompanied by a banner that reads "Steenbergenaren zijn de lul, Minister Schultz," a play-on-words saying that people in Steenbergen have drawn the short straw, with "lul" also a slang word for "penis." "She says Rijkswaterstaat did everything neatly according to the rules and labels us thus as whiners. But then where is the promised whisper asphalt? Why are we being messed around with models and empty measuring devices? Why is there no screen at my house while I have sleepless nights due to the noise? We have been let down."
