Rioters headed to court next week
A number of Hague rioters will be appearing before the judge for causing unrest in Schilderswijk on Monday and Wednesday next week, the Public Prosecutor announced.
Nine of these suspects appeared before the magistrate on Monday. One of them, a minor, was released on the condition that he adheres to a night time curfew - he has to be with his parents between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. until he appears in court. The other 8 suspects will remain in custody until their hearing.
The investigation into violence in Schilderswijk is still ongoing and the Prosecutor believes that more arrests will follow.
There was unrest in The Hague for four nights in a row last week, following the death of Mitch Henriquez after he was arrested at a festival in the city last weekend. A total of 16 people were arrested after riots in Schilderswijk on Monday night, June 29th. More riots followed on Tuesday and Wednesday night, with 11 and 34 people being arrested for these. On Thursday night, the police arrested about 200 people for breaking the ban on assembly imposed by Mayor Jozias van Aartsen earlier that day.
