Schiphol expects busiest day ever in August
Schiphol expects its busiest day ever this summer. On August 2nd, the airport expects around 196 thousand departing, transferring and arriving passengers, 300 more than the busiest day at the airport last year.
The airport expects a total of 10.6 million passengers over the summer months of July and August, Het Parool reports. Jos Nijhuis, the president of the Schiphol Group, asks that passengers have "understanding and patience" during the busy times.
The renovations at the airport are not completely finished yet and the Koninklijke Marechaussee, Royal Military police, are struggling with a high workload. The customs officials have also announced protest actions on July 6th. All these factors could definitely cause delays.
The airport has arranged actors and acrobats to entertain the waiting crowd during the busy days between July 6th and August 2nd.
Statistics Netherlands announced on Tuesday that nearly 12.7 million passengers traveled through national airports in the Netherlands in the first quarter of this year. That is an increase of 4.1 percent compared to the same period last year. Schiphol showed an increase of 3.5 percent to 11.5 million passengers.
