Bus packed with Dutch tourists crashes, killing 3, injuring 29
Three Dutch tourists were killed in a bus accident in the south of Portugal. 29 others were injured, some of them seriously.
The accident happened around 00:20 on Thursday morning, Dutch time, on the A22 highway near the city of Albufeira. According to NOS, the bus went off the road and slid down a slope. The cause of the accident is still unknown.
There were 34 Dutch tourists on board the bus. They had arrived at Faro airport earlier that evening on flight OR697, according to travel agency TUI. The bus was taking the tourists to their hotels.
A spokesperson for TUI told NOS that the police are investigating the accident and nothing further is known. The police have spoken to the bus driver, who was seriously injured, but what the man said is unknown.
More than a hundred rescue workers responded to the scene of the accident. An emergency hospital was set up next to the bus. Two helicopters were deployed to take the wounded to hospitals in Faro and Portimao.
