Warning shots fired in gunman's arrest
Police officers in Dordrecht fired two warning shots during the arrest of a 19-year-old suspect on Wednesday night. There were no injuries in the incident.
Officers were responding to a report of a man with a gun on Brugweg in the Zuid-Holland city near Rotterdam. Agents who arrived on the scene found a man matching the description of their suspect, but he would not stop walking as police tried to detain him, the police department alleged.
In the darkness, police officers could not see whether the man was actually carrying a firearm. One of the officers decided to fire a warning shot, which the suspect still ignored, police said in a statement. Only after the officer fired a second warning shot did the man surrender.
A firearm was found at the scene, police added, but not on the 19-year-old's person.
