Bars, restaurants donate €75k in tips to development non-profits

A total of 570 bars, restaurants and clubs raised more than 37 thousand euros in tips on Saturday night, which will be donated to 5 small-scale sustainable development projects. Support organization Impulsis doubled the amount, which means that the 5 projects will be receiving more than 75 thousand euros. This charitable action was organized by the foundation Nacht van de Fooi, or Night of the Tip in English, a student initiative that aims to "bridge the gap between the partying public in the Netherlands and small-scale sustainable projects in developing countries", according to the foundation's website. During one day and night per year, the participating hospitality businesses donate the tips they received to these projects. Cities that participated in this year's Night of the Tip include Amsterdam, Breda, Den Bosch, The Hague, Delft, Eindhoven, Enschede, Groningen, Leiden, Maastricht, Nijmegen, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Wageningen. The small-scale sustainable development projects are Afri-Can, AquaQeust, Geefeenkoe, Knowledge for Children and Product of Prison. Details on these projects can be seen here.
